Clay Exploration Workshops
Dive into clay with our six-part series celebrating texture, pattern, and playful discovery at the inspiring Tootsie Gallery in Yass
Each session is a hands-on invitation to explore the endless possibilities of surface design—press it, carve it, layer it, and make it yours. You’re welcome to jump into a single workshop or journey through the full series, growing your confidence, skills, and creative spark along the way. Come get your hands dirty, meet fellow makers, and bring your ideas to life—one textured masterpiece at a time
1. Clay & Colour: Create 3 Unique Pendants
Saturday 9th August 2-4pm
A hands-on workshop where you'll create three unique pendant designs using stoneware clay.
Helen will guide you through shaping and engraving your pendants with the help of pottery tools
and stamps, allowing you to experiment with textures and patterns,
all the while connecting with a welcoming creative community.
Once your designs are complete, you’ll decorate each pendant using three coats of underglaze,
choosing from a vibrant selection of colours to make each piece uniquely yours.
Your pieces will be bisque fired and three coats of a clear glossy glaze will be applied.
Once complete, your colourful pendants will be strung and ready to wear.

2. Slip & Swirl: Decorative Bowl Workshop
Saturday 16th August from 2-4pm
A hands-on workshop where you’ll create three unique bowl designs using stoneware clay.
Helen will guide you through the process of shaping your bowls and applying decorative slip,
helping you explore a variety of textures and patterns through slip trailing techniques. .
This is a wonderful opportunity to express your creativity and connect with a warm, welcoming community of fellow makers
Each piece will undergo a bisque firing, followed by the application of three coats of a glaze of your choice and then a final glaze firing to achieve a glossy, durable finish.

3. Clay Canvas: Tile & Trivet Workshop
Saturday 23rd August from 2-4pm
A hands-on workshop where you’ll create a decorative clay tile or trivet using stoneware clay.
Helen will guide you through the process of designing your piece using a variety of pottery tools
and stamps, helping you explore an array of textures and patterns to make your creation truly unique.
It's a fun and inspiring way to learn new skills, explore your creativity, and enjoy a relaxed, supportive atmosphere.
Once your designs are complete, you’ll decorate your tile or trivet using three coats of underglaze, choosing from a vibrant selection of colours to make each piece uniquely yours.

4. Clay Vessels: Creating with Form and Pattern
Saturday 6th September from 2-4pm
A hands-on workshop where you’ll create a decorative pottery bowl using the coil-building technique.
Helen will guide you through the process of shaping your bowl by hand with coils of stoneware clay,
then show you how to enhance your piece with texture and decoration using stamps and pottery tools.
It’s a fun and creative experience—perfect for anyone looking to explore clay in a supportive, inspiring environment.

A hands-on workshop where you’ll create a decorative clay platter.
Helen will guide you through the process of forming your platter by hand using stoneware clay,
then show you how to enhance the surface with texture, stamps, and glaze transfers to create rich, layered designs.
Whether you're a beginner or looking to deepen your skills, this workshop offers a relaxed and engaging way to explore surface decoration and creative expression in clay.
After forming your platter, you’ll begin by applying three coats of underglaze, selecting from a vibrant palette of colours to create your base.
Once the surface is coated, you’ll add texture and design elements using stamps, tools, and glaze transfers—allowing your creativity to shine through in every detail.

6. Curves in Clay: Shape Your Own Vase
Saturday 27th September from 2-4pm
A hands-on workshop where you’ll create your own sculptural coil vase using stoneware clay.
Helen will guide you through the art of coiling and building up your form, teaching you how
to shape a unique vessel with character and flow.
Once your vase takes shape, you'll experiment with tools and stamps to add surface texture and patterns, bringing your creation to life with personal flair.
